This page reveals a little about us, and also allows you a little peek into the
sculpting, development and casting process.
Hi, my name is Richard and I live with my wife Millie and our rescue dog Yogi, on the lovely south coast of Dorset. Thank you for visiting our new website.
I have been creating art simply for the pleasure of creating something from nothing for well over thirty years. However my wife has asked me on so many occasions why don't we share them with the world? So that more people can enjoy them. My wife Millie has a point. So contained within our website are just a few of my creations for you today. You will discover some unusual gifts for all budgets and tastes, that we hope will surprise, inspire and delight.
On a personal note, I would like to say that I sincerely hope you feel on some level the euphoria I experienced as I sculpted each and every one of them. I have invested a considerable amount of time and money in their wonderful, however sometimes challenging creation. However, I love them equally for all their individual and unique attributes, and I hope you enjoy viewing thousands of hours of my happy endeavors.
Richard, Millie and of course, Yogi.

Thought this might be of interest, an overview of one way to the creation of a figurative sculpture.
Before I had even begun the sculpt I considered how the finished piece should look and decided to create an exaggerated projection of the subject, a caricature of our boy. This sculpt was great fun, which I feel comes through in the piece.

Why, and how?
This idea, like so many others, came to me in a dream. I woke up one Saturday morning, and within thirty minutes I was on my way to the nearest supermarket. I purchased three of the largest apples they stocked, I clearly recall the slightly quizzical look from the checkout person. As who really goes into a supermarket and buys just three apples first thing in the morning? Anyway… when I got home straight into the kitchen, removing the largest kitchen knife we own off our wall mounted magnetic strip, I picked up apple number one, and began to cut.
The first apple was unfortunately not quite there as the angles and proportions were getting close to my vision, but not quite there yet. However, it was very useful as I then could carefully study the sliced apple. I began calculating angles, dock size, proportions, and stability. Onto the second apple. It was very precise and fast work, as there was no room for error. Slice, measure, slice, slice, measure, slice and then it happened… apple two, was a successful realization of my vision. Angles, proportions dock size. Perfect.
A silicone rubber block mold was made of quite literally the apple itself. This is the reason why when held in the light it looks like an apple. When it’s touched, the ‘skin’ feels like an actual apple. Look closely and even the core is visible in all its beauty, and truly a lovely texture under the fingertips. This first mold enabled me to create a master casting from which a second mold was made. There were in fact more than thirty-four stages in the creation of this vision, on that Saturday morning.

Eva

Study of a woman's spirit, in an inspirational and powerful stance.
I began to sculpt a piece similar to Eva around sixteen years ago, however quickly realizing at the time that I could not accomplish the level of quality I was striving for. So my only option at the time was to walk away, thinking that one day perhaps I would come back to the concept with far more knowledge and ability. Over a decade passed by. However she continued to be developed further in my mind over those years, I thought of her fondly on many occasions, there were moments when I experienced a wave of emotion flowing through me as I thought of how great she could be. Then at last, I felt it was time to at last bring her to life. I began to sculpt her... again. Time to go back to school, knowledge is the key.
The knowledge I refer to was becoming more proficient with a host of disciplines such as initial concept, gesture capture, silhouette clarity, speed drawing, in depth anatomy, efficient and practical sculpting practice's, advanced mould construction, casting techniques. The study and retraining of myself was not easy, however going back to the beginning of my sculpting journey only enabled me to once again fall in love with the craft. My commitment to the creation of Eva was quite simply, everything I had. And so after investing hundreds hours into Eva, spanning eleven months I had at last achieved close to what I saw in my minds eye all those years ago, Eva had arrived.

I have also been working on this brand new and very lovely sculpture scheduled for release in 2024.
I do find myself wondering what is going through her mind, the hopes and desires of a young woman waiting patiently - for something. Almost complete, this sculpt is at an advanced stage now. The base which incorporates a huge sweeping spiral I believe raises this piece to another level.
An early version of the kneeling woman is of course in the spiral images below.

Remember to be grateful and constructive in whatever you do today, and always be kind.
