Why, and how?
This idea, like so many others, came to me in a dream. I woke up one Saturday morning, with this idea so clear in my mind that I could see it in front of me. The beauty of an apple, incorporated into a fully functional phone/tablet holder.
Within thirty minutes I was on my way to the nearest supermarket. I purchased three of the largest apples they stocked, I clearly recall the slightly quizzical look from the checkout person. As who really goes into a supermarket and buys just three apples first thing in the morning? Anyway… when I got home straight into the kitchen, removing the largest kitchen knife we own off our wall mounted magnetic strip, I began to cut apple number one.
The first few cuts were not quite there as the as the angles and proportions were getting close to my vision, but not quite right. However, this was very useful as I carefully studied the sliced apple. I continued to calculate angles, dock size, proportions, stability etc. Ok, so onto the second apple.
It was very precise and fast work, as there was no room for error. Slice, measure, slice, slice, measure, slice and then it happened… apple two, was a successful realization of my vision. Angles, proportions dock size. Perfect.
A silicone rubber block mold was made of quite literally the apple itself. This is the reason why when held in the light it looks like an apple. When it’s touched, the ‘skin’ feels like an actual apple. Look closely and even the core is visible in all its beauty, and truly a lovely texture under the fingertips.
This first mold enabled me to create a master casting from which a second mold was made. There were in fact more than thirty-four stages in the creation of this vision, on that Saturday morning.
Created and copyright dated 2022 cast into the back of each one as in fact, I created this apple for fun over the Christmas break of 2022.
Only now are they finally 'out there' and I have at last really set them apples free ......lol.

The inspiration for this?
My Niece as a young girl used to dream about horses and ponies all the time, and she somehow knew there was a pony out there waiting for her. Until one fateful day many years ago she plucked up the courage to volunteer at a local stable. As luck would have it, she happened to meet a young Forrester (a New Forrest Pony) he wasn't sure at first, however a bond of trust and friendship slowly developed between them.
They pretty much grew up together, giving each other confidence and comfort. Over the years they shared many adventures and fun times, from jumping in competitions to riding on lazy hacks in the warm summer sunshine. Lazy days that seemed to last forever for them both, quietly walking through the long grass.
I say had, because unfortunately her best friend, due to a ripe old age passed away peacefully in his sleep. However, my niece cherishes those happy times they had together, those memories with her pony, her best friend.
This was the inspiration for the creation of this piece. A celebration of the happy times they had together, the unshakable bond between a girl and her horse. All because this young girl had the courage to volunteer at a local stable and just happened to meet a young Forrester who took a leap of faith and befriend her. Always remember that everything starts with a dream, so dream big…
I decided close towards the completion of this piece, to give the girl sunglasses. My reasons being that this could any pretty girl with long hair, with her best friend by her side.

*In my humble opinion, although I'm probably biased. Lol.
Yogi, turning a wonderful mistake, into a successful rescue…
My wife and I have for many years been dreaming of having puppy in our lives. However, we both felt this could not happen until one of us had a job working from home. My wife around eighteen months ago changed her job, and as luck would have it began working from home. The hunt for our puppy was on.
We had for years said that we would only look at rescue dogs, and true to our word this is what we did. A relative then recommended this dog rescue organization overseas. We had been planning to look closer to home within the UK, however a recommendation goes a long way.
My wife had taken the website details and pinged them over to me. We began to look at potential dogs, they were all lovely however there was only one who really captured us both. We discovered that he had been found in the middle of winter abandoned with his brother and two sisters on a rubbish tip, literally they had all been thrown away. They had only survived the subzero temperatures by burrowing into the acres of warm fermenting rubbish.
The home visit had gone very well, and we were now emotional and financially committed to this puppy. The rescue centre had also been kind enough to send a couple of videos which confirmed to us of his sweet nature and intelligence, in fact I still have the video on my phone and enjoy watching it now and then. We had also begun looking at the ferry crossing timetables from Dover to Calais. It was all going so well, then this happened...
Around two weeks before we were going to meet him, we happened to visit my Sister-in-law who had recommended this adoption rescue company all those weeks ago. This was the day that we discovered that the details that my wife had taken down were incorrect, and this overseas rescue center was not the one we thought it was and was in fact a complete unknown to us all. And not a recommended, overseas rescue centre! The drive on the way home was quiet, and my wife asked me if I was, ok? I just replied yes. We didn’t talk for the rest of the twenty-minute journey home.
Over the following week my wife said we could still look for a dog in the UK and cut our losses with this unknown overseas company if you like, however, somehow, I could not bring myself to look at any other potential dogs to adopt.
A few days later, my wife said to me that if we were going to go for Yogi that 'tomorrow we will have to book the ferry tickets', what did I want to do. I would sleep on it, I told her, and decide in the morning.
The next morning, I went through to the kitchen, and I made a pot of coffee. Around an hour later my wife joined me in the living room. Coffee in hand she asked me “Well, what do you want to do”, I turned to look at her and said, “let’s go and get our puppy”.
The first meeting we both met Yogi on that sunny Saturday afternoon is a day I will never forget. Yogi was simply terrified and was running up and down the huge pen so fast that the dog trainer only just caught him. He looked like a hairy blur. The trainer at last managed to catch him and bring him to me. Yogi looked at me for a moment with a puzzled look in his eyes as I Slowey placed a harness on him. We both quietly sat side by side for the next twenty minutes, watching the world go by. The minutes went by, and then he gently, then firmly leaned into me. He knew that Daddy had arrived.
We completed the entire trip in one day, and arrived home well after one am on Sunday morning. My wife unlocked the front door, as I carried Yogi in from the car. I explained to him that this pretty thing by our front door was a hanging basket, which he gently sniffed. I wonder even to this day, if that was the very first time that he had smelt the scent of a flower.
So how did it all go? Well, I could go on forever about the kindest, cutest, smartest dog I have ever met. Suffice to say, eighteen months later our darling handsome boy is looking at me right now with his big beautiful brown eyes as I put these few lines down.
We are simply grateful that somehow against all the odds, our boy really did find his way home X.
A wonderful fun piece for any dog lover out there
